| In one of the classes we focus on what we are not in order to get a taste of our true nature. The afirmation 'you are not your thoughts' leads one to see we cannot be that which we observe. The understanding that the egoic sense of self is another thought, and just part of the mental process, that rises up apparently transcending the mental process saying 'this is my mental process, i am doing this' further leads one to conclude there is no I, as it itself is just a part of the mental process. As long as we hold on to this sense of 'I' there will always be separation. As long as the 'I' is strongly identified with then this sense of 'I' is practicing meditation and can achieve enlightenment or awakening, but anything the 'I' can obtain, can also be lost. The realization that the 'I' is illusory is liberating. |
