We are a particularly Western Buddhism, which in the teaching tradition of Buddhism is trying to translate the essence of the Dharma into a language that is accessible to modern concerns and culture. Along these lines, we teach traditional Buddhist meditation techniques in a manner and form that is particularly relevant to modern life and people's actual experiences. Our Introductory courses offer instruction in the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditation practices.
Are the core of our movement is the Western Buddhist Order, which was founded in the late sixties by the Ven. Sangharakshita. This Order is neither monastic nor lay, but emphasizes commitment to the Dharma and the practice of ethics over any particular lifestyle. The Friends of the Western Buddhist Order has city centres and retreat facilities all over the world (please visit www.fwbo.org for more information on our International presence).
